1st Team Off and Running 26 Apr 10
2 weeks already played and Kirkstall 1st team have made an excellent start to the season. 1st game of the season we travelled away to a very depleted Rawdon side. The first time we played at Rawdon with glorious sunshine and the wicket looked half decent. Jos won the toss and elected to field first. We made a great start and made quick in-roads to bowl them out for 76. Was an excellent team effort with the bowling and fielding. Jos Siddall took 5 wickets, Joe Gibson 2, Matt Webb 2 and an excellent run-out from Leedo. Greatest moment of the day was when Rawdon skipper 'Stuey' hit a boundary and ex-gobby wicketkeeper 'Fatty' was sat on the wall shouting 'All day Stuey, All day', next ball Jos bowls Stuey and we abused him 'All day Stuey, All F*~#ing day'. We knocked it off 1 wicket down and were in the bar at half 4. Great win and a very reserved Happy Birthday.
Week 2 saw us at home to Collingham & Linton CC with the return of Rob Kumar Sharma. It was dissapointing to see Collingham the richest club in the league with different playing shirts, even the skipper Toby 'im so good' Jacklin didnt have a C&LCC shirt on. However it was nice to see all the KECC players in the correct attire. Collingham won the toss and elected to field first and input Kirkstall. We got off to a good start and continued to tick the board over. There were some good partnerships and some starts from the Kirkstall players. Johnny Wright top scored with 59, Jos Siddall 32, Paul Malone 27, John Leedham 26 also contributed. Kirkstall reached 224 all out with some good partnerships towards the end. Toby Jacklin ended up with figures of 7 for 74. Kirkstall took to the field after tea and were looking forward to the challenge. A great start again with Joe Gibson picking up 3 wickets within the first 15 overs. John Swain first to go, caught at mid-off by Malone. Next was Dalton, clean bowled for 4 with thanks to Jamie Davey who got stuck into him the ball before. Third wicket to go was Brian Lee who snicked off to Bill who ended up catching 1 handed infront of 3rd slip. Toby Jacklin and some Andrew Emmerson put on a good partnership for the 4th wicket. Malone came onto bowl and with his first delivery took a wicket. A rank long-hop hit to deep square leg. Toby Jacklin was next to go for 48 when he played on, off Malone. Stephen James was next to go when the ball clipped top of off stump from Malone. Rob Sharma and Sam Anderson put on a good partnership, but another good bowling change saw Gibbo have Sam trapped LBW. Malone took the 8th wicket when 2nd team stand in Shoiab hit one back at Malone. C&B. Gibbo bowled Boothy for not many, and Malone got the last with an LBW and the slow death from the umpire. Rob Sharma was stranded at the non strikers with 42. Collingham all out for 218. Gibbo and Malone 5 for 42 and 5 for 43 respectively. A great atmosphere after the final wicket and a very loud Happy Birthday.
